• Are you looking for a coupon code to buy my software? You can get one from lots of 3rd party sites but they won't work. My software never goes on sale and has never been discounted. The only coupon codes that are given is when I give a club presentation and I offer a discount to the attendees. Other than that, everyone pays the same price.

Splitting Rings With A Bandsaw

Slicing a disc into two or more is a good way to make up thin rings. The only way to do this safely is to use a jig of some sort. Gord Rock has posted a video showing a very simple way.

Stuart. thanks for posting. I have used this method and it works pretty well. imo, the key is light feed pressure when pushing the disk through the bandsaw.

oh sure, me too. I was just remarking on the fact that there is a .10 solution to a $500 problem. Someone always trying to build a better mousetrap. KISS has always been my mantra

DSCN2719.JPG Here's a picture of adapting a mortising jig to re-saw work. Picture shows re-sawing for a dizzy bowl but works as well for splitting rings. Full disclosure, not my idea. Got it from Wayne Miller.

Nice idea. The only thing I would add is would it not be a good idea to add a sacrifice piece of wood to protect the chance of running the blade into the metal of the mortising jig? Would hate to dull the saw blade and ding the jib.

Like you Alex I try to use the KISS principle as I find it much easier and cheaper to work out a solution to fix my problem. Attached are some pictures of the jig I made to split rings on my bandsaw. Its made out of 3/8th Ply for the base and MDF. I coated the upright with 3 coats of wipe on Polly so that double sided tape would hold the ring securely while cutting. In one of the pictures is a ring I sliced off 5mm thick from a segmented ring made out of cheap pine to test out the jig when I made it some time ago. Since making it I have sliced not only rings but other bits of wood that I needed to shave off a small amount of wood. It works for me. The jig is easy to make in a couple of hours out of some scrap wood and saves you outlaying megabucks on a manufactured one.
