Segmented
woodturning is a unique art form. Starting
with boards, a turning of unlimited shape,
size and complexity can be made. Using woods
of different colors, there is no end to
the beautiful patterns that can be created
in the turning. The only limit is imagination.
Kevin Neelley has enjoyed working with wood
for many years but only discovered woodturning
twelve years ago. Early into woodturning,
Kevin decided that he was most interested
in segmented woodturning so he became devoted
to discovering everything he could about
the art form. Unfortunately, there was very
little information on segmented woodturning.
Until relatively recently, there were no
books, videos or Internet forums about the
subject so learning was painfully slow.
So, when Kevin constructed his first Internet
website in 1997, he dedicated a large part
of the site to instructions for making segmented
woodturnings so newcomers would have a good
information resource. He really enjoys helping
other woodturners learn about segmented
woodturning.
Kevin makes his segmented woodturnings in
a studio at his house in Lenexa, KS. He
is a member of the Kansas City Woodturners,
which is a chapter of the American Association
of Woodturners. He sells his turnings through
his internet website and at local art fairs.
Kevin really enjoys the art fairs because
it gives him the chance to talk about and
show off his turnings to hundreds of people.
Every woodturner likes to show off their
beautiful projects and Kevin is no exception.
